Why I Tell People to NOT Move to Milton, MA
It's June in Milton, and I need to get something off my chest.
If you hate top-rated schools, a tight-knit community where neighbors actually know your name, easy access to Boston, and some of the most beautiful tree-lined streets in the state… then honestly, Milton is not for you. I should probably keep this a secret but as your agent, I feel obligated to warn you before the summer market gets going and you end up falling for this town anyway.
The commute is too convenient.
Red Line, Route 93, twenty minutes into the city. While everyone else is sweating through summer traffic, Milton residents are just... not stressed about it. It's honestly inconsiderate to the rest of us.
The Blue Hills are too close — and they're unbearable right now.
7,000 acres of trails, ponds, and views, all in full summer swing. Hiking the Skyline Trail, swimming at Houghton's Pond, catching the views from the top of Great Blue Hill — it's a lot of nature to have right in your backyard, especially in June.
The restaurants on Adams Street are too good.
It's patio season, and Adams Street does not play around. Cozy spots, local favorites, outdoor seating that fills up fast on a warm night. If you wanted bland takeout and zero charm, you picked the wrong town.
The sense of community? Genuinely unbearable.
Summer in Milton means concerts at the gazebo, neighbors out on their porches, kids riding bikes until the streetlights come on. People wave. People know your dog's name. It's a lot to handle if you were hoping for total anonymity.
The trees are about to be a problem.
Milton's tree-lined streets are gorgeous most of the year, but in full summer leaf they're something else — that deep green canopy over every block, shade everywhere you need it. It's hard to stay anonymous and unbothered when your whole street looks like a postcard.
And the timing? Don't get me started.
Summer is peak season for Milton's housing market — families trying to close before the new school year, more listings, more competition. If you weren't planning on falling in love with a house this summer, I'd avoid driving through town altogether.
So yeah — if none of that sounds appealing, keep scrolling.
